What do we do at the Railroad

Crisis Intervention and Advocacy

We Help Bridge the Gap

When someone is experiencing domestic violence, they may not know where to turn, what resources are available, or what their next step should be. We are here to help bridge that gap.

We receive calls from victims and survivors who are in crisis, sometimes when they feel completely overwhelmed, isolated, or unsure of what to do next. We provide a safe, compassionate listening ear without judgment and help them identify options that fit their individual circumstances.

Calling 911 can be an important step in an emergency, but it is not always the safest or most appropriate first step for every survivor. Law enforcement officers also have a different role from advocates and may not have the specialized training, time, or resources to provide the ongoing support that a domestic violence advocate can provide.

That's where we come in.

We help victims and survivors navigate the resources available to them and connect them with the services they need, including:

  • 🟣 Crisis support and compassionate listening

  • 🟣 Therapy and mental health resources

  • 🟣 Emergency and transitional housing resources

  • 🟣 Financial assistance and community resources

  • 🟣 Transportation and other practical resources

  • 🟣 Safety planning and guidance

  • 🟣 Housing and program referrals

  • 🟣 Letters of recommendation and support for housing and assistance programs

  • 🟣 Connections to local agencies and organizations

  • 🟣 Help understanding available options and deciding what steps to take next

Sometimes the first step isn't making a report. Sometimes it's simply having someone answer the phone and say, "I believe you. You are not alone. Let's figure out what comes next and keep you safe"

We don't make decisions for survivors. We help empower them with information, resources, support, and connections so they can make the decisions that are right for themselves and their families.

Domestic violence can leave survivors feeling like they have nowhere to go. Our goal is to help them find a path forward in a world of chaos
